CONSIDERING BREEDING YOUR DOG????

When you are considering breeding ask yourself why? What motives do you have? Will this breeding better the breed standard or just create more puppies?

If you are breeding to keep a puppy for yourself remember they have more than 1 puppy to a litter. Will you be able to hand-pick the right homes? Will you know how to pick a stud that will compliment or improve on your bitch?

If you are not sure how to find a stud dog in the are ask the breeder you got your dog from. IF YOUR DOG CAME WITH A SPAY/NEUTER CONTRACT OR YOUR DOG CAME FROM A PET SHOP THINK TWICE ABOUT BREEDING IT. Most pet quality dogs are sold with an enforceable contract. If your breeder finds out you violated that contract you will lose in a court of law. If your dog came from a pet shop you probably won't get any papers or pedigree information. So how will you be improving this breed? Do you know the laws for puppy sales in your state? New Jersey has one of the toughest & most respected laws governing the sales of puppies.

All your friends want one you say! Ha ! Wait until your puppies are born and the excuses crop up. My grandmom died, my wife is allergic, we're going on vacation, oh we'll get one in your next litter. Trust me I have heard all these reasons why people want to breed their dog. Most end up 'getting rid of' the puppies to questionable homes or to pet shops. Most of those puppies will probably end up in a shelter situation.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING LINKS BEFORE YOU JUMP INTO BREEDING YOUR PET QUALITY DOG. Make a note of the code of ethics quality breeders follow and ask yourself if you will adhere to them. Remember the rescue is filled with dogs from backyard breeders, pet shops, puppy mills and uninformed owners. Please don't contribute to these circumstances.
